Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology

India accounts for about 15% of the world’s maternal deaths and brining down the Maternal Mortality Rate by increasing the percentage of institutional deliveries has been one of the key focus areas for the Indian healthcare system for several decades now.

At KNHM, providing quality maternal and child health has been one of the top focus areas at the Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital. The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology is one of the oldest O&G departments in the North India and is led by of one of the senior most experts in the field in the region.

The Department is affiliated with the Moti Lal Nehru Medical College, Allahabad since 1964 to provide teaching and clinical facilities in the field for undergraduate and post-graduate students. The Department is also recognised as Regional Institute of Maternal and Child Health by Government of India in 1992.

Department has 5 full-time Senior Consultants, 10 Resident Doctors, and 175 beds reserved for O&G patients at KNMH.

Department of Oncology

Radiation Oncology

The number of cancer patients in India is estimated at 25 lakh. About 7 lakh new cancer patients register every year and the annual fatality from cancer is estimated to be around 5.5 lakh. But cancer is a killer not only for the patients, it puts an unbearable cost on the families of those suffering from cancer as one in four households with a cancer patient, are forced into poverty, wiping away savings and assets.

At Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital, it has been our endevour to provide quality and affordable cancer care to the patients, more so from the economically backward sections of the society. We have brought some relief to millions of families over the last six decades.

Department of Radiation Oncology at KNMH has been providing Cancer treatment since 1953 when a 30 curie Cobalt-60 unit was commissioned with technical co-ordination and support provided by Late Dr Homi Bhabha, the then Chairman of Atomic Energy Establishment, Trombay. The Atomic Energy Establishment was later renamed Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).

For more than six decades now, the Radiation Oncology Department has achieved various milestones and distinctions. In 1994, the Department of Radiation Oncology was recognised as first Regional Cancer Centre for Uttar Pradesh by the Government of India.

The hospital, with its limited resources, has been at the forefront of bringing the latest equipment and treatment for cancer. In 2011, state-of-the-art Linear Accelerator technology was installed and inaugurated by our trustee Shri Rahul Gandhi. Another Linear Accelerator with the latest 3D technology is under-process and will start treatment by 2018.

The Department of Radiation Oncology has 3 Senior Consultants, 1 Consultant, 1 Scientific Officer and a team of 4 Medical Physicist, 2 Medical Physicist (Intern), and almost a dozen Radiation Technologists.

Surgical Oncology

The Surgical Oncology at KNMH is equipped to perform various surgical procedures. This includes but not limited to COMMANDO Procedure (COMbined MAndibulectomy and Neck Dissection Operation), Modified Radical Mastectomy (MRM), Surgery for CA Ovary, etc.

Department of General Surgery

The Department of Surgery was started in the year of 1994 for Cancer, Neuro, and other General Surgeries. The Department has 3 modular-Operation Theaters, CSSD Unit, and minor-OT rooms to conduct procedures.

Department of Neuro Science

The Department of Neuro Science at KNMH is equipped to handle various procedures including surgical and emergency situations. The Department has 2 Senior Consultants.

Department of Gastroenterology

The Department of Gastroenterology has a Senior Consultant.

Department of Orthopaedics

The Department of Orthopaedics has Senior Consultant and performs arthroscopic surgeries and procedures such as joint replacement.

Department of Neonatology & Paedeatrics

The Department of Neonatology & Paedeatrics at KNMH is a well established department with 2 Senior Consultants. The department has a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with various types of ventilators, monitors, incubators, and life support devices. Regular vaccination services are provided by the department to children.

Department of Medicine

KNMH has various support departments to help various specialties. The Department of Medicine runs an all-day OPD clinic for various health complaints including diabetes, respiratory disorders, routine health issues, etc. and provides various types of support to our in-patients.

Department of Cardiology

Department of Cardiology has two Cardology Consultants. The KNMH will soon add a Cath Lab in the department making KNMH once of the few hospitals to provide comprehensive cardiac services.

Department of Anaesthesiology

Department of Anaesthesiology works closely with the departments of general surgery, surgical oncology, and obstetrics & gynecology to help them conduct various procedures.

Department of Radio Diagnosis & Imaging

The department provides x-ray facility, diagnostic sonography, and CT scan services.

Department of Pathology

The Department of Pathology at KNMH was started in the year 1947. Since then, Department of Pathology has been providing diagnostic support to the patients and clients of KNMH. In the year 1997, a Microbiology Lab was started and in the same year Radioimmunoassay Lab (RIA) was established with the support from Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology (BRIT), Mumbai.

The Department is equipped to conduct almost all pathological procedures in-house and is staffed with more than one and a half dozen Pathology Technicians supervised by a Senior Pathologist.

ICU, Day Care and Dialysis Unit

KNMH has a well-equipped modern ICU, day care facilities for various surgical procedures, and dialysis units.

Rural Health Program

The Rural Health Program at KNMH runs a Rural Hospital for trans-Yamuna population in village Newada Samogar, near Naini. Known as the Kamala Nehru Memorial Rural Hospital (KNMRH), the rural hospital has all days ante-natal OPDs for pregnant women, two days’ Cancer OPD, and vaccination facilities for children regularly visited by the trans-Yamuna population.
